How do I play this? I tried skirmish but the only thing I could do was drop things on eachother and make them 'asplode.

Agreed. Here I thought skirmish was a mode where you place your 5 modules as a base, well, I edited my starting cash, but you make your base, hit done building, and you fight against droids or some stuff. Will someone explain how this works?

That's all it is, you make your base, hit done and then defend your self against the enemies. If you're playing multiplayer the objective is to destroy your friends base/brain.
