Or you could get the forgetin' huge Wacom Professional, your choice

Although a bamboo tablet looks nice, would a wacom allow me to view what I'm drawing on the tablet, without needing to look at the monitor? Or did I miss what 'lack of screen' meant?

You missed what "lack of screen" meant

The regular Bamboo tablets don't have a built-in screen, but Wacom does have some that have them

The ones with screens are way expensive. I have an Intuos 4 medium is it great.
