(I would have bumped the old, one... But it was "too old")
I decided I would bump this, since lasers have just dropped in price, because of the new so called "Blue ray" diode. L.A.S.E.R
Is actually an acronym for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation"
Not wanting to get into too much detail, a laser is many beams, focused, into one. While a light, spreads them out.
So what's so cool about a red dot on the wall?Is the question you guys might be asking, but I'm here to discuss burning lasers, that pop balloons, cut tape, and light matches.
So what kind of lasers are there, and what do they cost? The three main type of lasers are, Red, blue, and green.
The price is measured on the power out put, commonly measured in mW's (miliwats)
although a 5 mW red laser may cost 5 bucks, a blue 5 mW could cost up to 200$, and green would be inbetween
H
ow much power does a laser take to burn? And which color burns the best?Although they would have burn the same, green is the most visible, because the human eye is most sensitive to green.
The average laser can start cutting through thin BLACK plastic at 50 mW.
Now why black? Because black absorbs the most heat.
Popping balloons is around 80 mW and lighting a cigarette (Assuming it's white) starts at around 120 mW
lighting a match (red or black) is probably 50-100 depending on the quality of the laser
What is potmoddingPot modding, basically takes a weak laser, and amping it up to a strong laser. This is unrecomended because your laser will break, and there is no way to reverse the effects of your burnt diode.
Can I build a laser?Yes, with a proper internet guide, and the right tools, building one will be really easy. Please pm me if you are willing to build one, and I can link you to proper guide, and tools.
Prices again?okay, I didn't go too much into detail on this let me give you guys a chart, on what is not a scam. (Any output less then what I list is possibly a scam)
Key: H= class A3 commonly used for high class purposes, business and science stuff.
N= Normal, for people like you and me!
5 mW class N green (20-25$)
5 mW class H Green (70-100$)
20mW class n Green (-30$)
20 mW Class H Green (120-200$)
50 mW class N Green/red (40-80$)
100 mW class N red (80-100$)
100 mW class H red (120-210)Thanks to advances in laser technology. You can now afford a 200 mW RED burner, for as low as $50
a 1000 mW (1 watt) blue laser for $300
or a 200 mW green burner for about $100Were can I buy these types of lasers?
UnRecommended:Any thing from these sights, are rippoffs.
http://amazon.comhttp://ebay.comhttp://dinodirect.comRecommended:http://Dragonlasers.comhttp://Wickedlasers.com (Price drops happen here)http://laserglow.comOther:http://rayfoss.comhttp://O-like.comAnd those are all the sites I know.
Just as a final note, I don't feel like going in back into the post, 5 mW greens are the least power will you see the beam
If you buy a laser don't blind your self.
Pointing at planes is illegal.
lasers over 5 mW is illegal to import into the u.s, so if you live in the uk, don't try to send your friend from the u.s a laser over 5 mW.
any laser video from "KipKay" Is unrecommended. It's alot harder to build stuff from his tutorials, and his lasers don't include "Ir" protection.
Laser saftey:
NEVER EVER substitute sunglasses for safety glasses, even looking at the dot with sunglasses, will forget your eyes up,
Your eyes are worth 10x more than a $20 safety goggles. So stop being cheap, and bye some.
Please discuss lasers and what now.
