1.Make sure to stock up on resources you'll need them!
2.Make your base noticeable so you dont lose it! (I recomend lots of torches!)
3.Make some windows for your base so you know when its day.

10. Having few accesses to your base can be a lifesaver, a base on an island with one dock and that's it can be the perfect place. Caves are not good places for homes. Always have a sword with you.

Caves are hard to expand and make room.
I just stick with making bases, walls, ect.

11. Surround lava with stone based materials rather than flammable ones if you use lava as a defence system.

I use cactus and water as a defence system.

Cactus: Causes damage to mobs
Water: Drown n' kill
