So recently I decided to see how long it takes to drive across some games featuring large open worlds. Here's my starting/finishing point and times. (note, on GTAIV that wasn't the route I took. It just automatically suggests a route for you)
GTAIV Time: 5min 31sec

GTASA Time: 7min 40sec

JC2 time: 30min 34sec

Think you can do better? Follow a few rules.
Don't use the game's navigation system. Get there on your own using only minimap/occasional looks at full map.
Generally try to stay on road (no huge shortcuts).
If you car blows up you can pause time until you find a new one.

For GTA SA, I got the time 7:29 with a Turismo or something like that and 7:34 with a Monster Truck.
