What is Dofus?

I'm not good at summarizing things so I'll just copy-paste *derp*

Dofus takes place in 'The World of Twelve', named because there are twelve character classes which inhabit it. Players control a 2D avatar belonging to one of the character classes in a 3rd person view.
As with most other massively multiplayer online role-playing games, players gain levels by obtaining experience. Experience can be gained by defeating monsters and completing quests. With each level, players gain 5 characteristic points, 1 spell point and 5 life points: which can be used to improve the characteristics of a player and upgrade their spells. As a character's level advances, new spells and equipment becomes available. Players receive a special 'aura' when they reach level 100, and gain a different aura at 200. The maximum level a player can achieve is 200. Players may also decide to take up professions and frequently band together to undertake dungeons. Many also become part of guilds, letting them interact with others more easily.

The world of Dofus is also heavy with puns, many of the people and items are just French or English words written backwards or have had a few letters switched, like the Kama Sutra or the healer class Eniripsa's name being the French for "aspirin" backwards.

The Classes of Dofus:

Ecaflip - A cat-like class based heavily on chance. Their attacks vary in power and benefits depending on luck.

Osamodas - A devilesque summoner class. Their main form of attack consists of summoning beasts to do the dirty work.

Sadida - An earthy-looking voodoo class. Sadidas summon various dolls and use spells that affect areas.

Feca - A human class that uses magic shields. Their attacks aren't very strong, but if a Feca gets the chance to buff itself with the right shields, it can be nearly invincible. Another specialty of the Feca is the Glyph, an area attack that is set during a turn and affects any player standing on it one turn later.

Eniripsa - A fairy-like healer class. Similar to Fecas, they can keep themselves alive for a long time while doing the same for their allies, though their attacks are fairly good.

Iop - The human swordsman class. Iops are the most general of the classes and generally buff themselves with spells before landing blows with their sword- and spirit-based spells.

Cra - A human archer class. They attack with magic arrow spells with a variety of effects.

Enutrof - An old man/lady rare-item-hunter class. Their spells are fairly generic, though their main strength is the high probability to get the rarest of items from fights. Although they're generally used as a way to get said rare items in groups, they can fend for themselves well.

Xelor - The mummy-like time-based class. Their main spells control time to benefit them and slow down their enemies.

Sacrier - The human masochist class. Their attack spells are like many other's, but Sacriers also have a special set of spells that gives them massive stat buffs for getting hurt. When a Sacrier is in a group, there is generally a turn where the Sacrier activates said spell and the entire team attacks them, generating a massive stat boost. To compensate, Sacriers have the highest HP of all classes.

Sram - A skeleton-like assassin class. They can lay hidden traps and are a more tactical class.

Pandawa - The newest class, a panda based around...drinking. Their attacks are generic but they also have a set of strange alcohol-based spells. This class is only playable by subscribers.

There are also various spells obtainable by all classes, but these must be obtained through battles, dungeons, or purchasing the scroll in-game that teaches the spell (which are generally expensive)

Features:

The features and mechanics of Dofus are vast, so it's hard to sum everything up, but these are some of the most basic and interesting features. If you want to discover more, look around the wiki and official website.

Alignments

Alignments are a neat feature of Dofus, but are only available for subscribers. Alignments are the only way to play PvP. Players can choose to be Brakmarian (based on devils) or Bontarian (based on angels) (or a third alignment known as the Mercenaries, though the servers this alignment is active on is scarce). When you mouse over a character, a set of wings may be present on their name based on their alignment. The larger the wings, the more battles that player has won. You can "aggress" these players if you're the opposite alignment (you can also aggress players without an alignment, but you will also be up against a level 100 Knight with very high resistance to all forms of attack). There is a short period of time where other players in the area can join their allies, so you can be in trouble if you aggress someone you think you can beat but suddenly more powerful players join your victim's side. The winner gains points to increase their alignment level, which can not only increase the size of their wings, but also allows them to do new things in their respective cities.

Losing Too Much

Every time you lose a battle, you lose energy based on your level. The less energy you have, the slower you'll heal outside of battle (though most people eat food instead). When your energy hits zero, you'll appear as a ghost in the nearest cemetery (or your Class Statue) and have to find the nearest Phoenix Statue to recover. Upon revival, you'll get a small bit of energy back. Energy can be recovered with certain potions and items.

Subscribing

F2P vs. P2P

Professions

Players can take up a profession, from farming to fishing to weapon-crafting. Players level up their profession by creating things (such as preparing bread or making weapons) to increase their recipe base and probability of success. Professions are major sources of income in-game. Players can only take up a new profession after their first one is level 30. Non-subscribers can only have a profession of level 30 max.

Quests

Like most other RPGs, Dofus has many quests to do, new ones becoming available as you level up. The rewards vary greatly, from money to special items. Certain quests unlock others, creating large quest chains that build up stories about the world and the NPCs in it.

Dungeons

Dofus also contains dungeons, most of which are only accessible via keys, which are dropped by various creatures or obtained from NPCs. Dungeons are almost always only done by large groups, mainly Guilds, which brings us to...

Guilds

Guilds are like many other guilds and clan in other games. One player forms the Guild with a special gem obtained very, very rarely from battles. They choose a name and a logo for it, which appears by the player's name once the Guild reaches a certain level. Guilds are leveled by the players contributing a percentage of experience they gain to the guild, which can be adjusted by themselves or set to certain amounts by higher-ranked members. As the Guild grows, it gets more abilities, such as being able to place a Perceptor, a centaur-like being, which collects a certain percent of drops in an area. Other players can attack a Perceptor, but this alerts the Guild that owns it and gives the members a chance to defend it. Certain Guild members can be given the right to collect the drops the Perceptor has collected. Guilds can be moderated many different ways, giving everyone different positions and application methods. Generally, the more experience a player contributes or the longer a member has been in the Guild, the higher the rank is they are given. Guilds can also get paddocks for Dragoturkeys, a mountable creature which can be used for fast travel and stat boosts.

The Hero Server - Oto Mustam

A server for subscribers, the Oto Mustam server has a very different set of rules than standard Dofus. In Oto Mustam, when you die, it's permanent. If you're defeated by a creature, that creature reappears on the map with your items. If someone defeats it, they obtain some of your items. Aligned players can attack Neutral players on their own turf without consequence. If you lose, they obtain some of your items. When you die, you can revive your character, but they essentially restart the game. The main benefit of Oto Mustam is that all experience is multiplied by 3.

Emotes

Your player has a handful of image emotes depicting faces and a single body-language emote (sit) when you first start, though other emotes can be obtained from quests and dungeons. The current available emotes are:

  • Applaud
  • Wave
  • Cross your arms
  • Cower in fear
  • Greeting bow
  • Blow a kiss
  • Shake a fist in anger
  • Fart
  • Rock Paper Scissors
  • Point
  • Sit (Default, regenerates health quicker than normal)
  • Lay down (A different-looking Sit)
  • Hold up your weapon
  • Present flowers
  • Burst into tears
  • Point and laugh
  • Electrical Aura (This is obtained when you reach level 100, a more elaborate version is obtained upon reaching level 200)
Incarnam

Incarnam is a newer tutorial area. It's like a little version of the regular world, including a little of everything, where all new players go when they begin. Players are taught how to do basic activities via quests, obtaining some beginner items along the way to help them a little when they leave. It even contains a small dungeon. Players can leave and return at any time, however when the player gets to a certain level (20?), they cannot return.

Player List

From what I remember, players can only be added as Friends when they're online. If you can't add someone, make sure they're online first. Make sure you try all player names as well. You can only add friends that are on the same server as you. If you want to be added to the list, please specify the names of your players and what server they're on.

Tips

- Ask people you know if you can borrow equipment from them, especially if you're low-leveled. It's hard to get enough money for things early on.
- Bank accounts are shared among characters on the same account on the same server. If it's easier for one character to get something than another, get it and put it in the bank.
- Accessing your bank account costs money depending on how many stacks or items you have. One stack of items costs 1 Kama. Although it's good to keep things that might be useful, keeping too much stuff can be costly.
- The special weapons obtained from fighting monsters (the names are green or something, they're called "Etheral Weapons") can only be used a few times before breaking and can be sold to NPCs for money depending on this formula: Item level + 1 * 1000
- FOLLOW BUILDS AND GUIDES. These can be found on the Dofus Wiki and make playing the game easier and more fun. unless you like experimentation, but be warned you could end up with a weak character as time goes on.

Reserved in case OP gets too full.

How big is the game once you run the patcher?
EDIT: also you might want a player list

"Dofus."

Oh god that sounds fun

It says that it downloads the window patch (20mb) then the multiplatform patch is 800mb. wat

No love for Dofus :(

Anyway; I'm considering making a new character on Rushu. My main character on Rushu has a Guild, "Bipolar Gods", which one of my friends who inherited from the leader gave me. It's currently empty after everyone left from me being gone so long, so we can repopulate it with Blocklanders if you want. It's level 9.

On a side note, holy crap the graphics have improved since I last played.

I don't think it's very big at all

Already have a player list, there's just no one on it. Not even me because I'm really rusty and am trying to get up to speed on what's happened the last few years.

"Dofus."

Oh god that sounds fun

I know it sounds like doofus shut up >:(

I played it for a couple weeks, its a bit too tactical for my taste, but the game over all is ok.

I used to play this.  I mostly played a Sram. :o

It ended up messing with my computer, but so far, everything has.

Oh Jesus, when spells get drastic changes they give you all the spell points you invested in them back, apparently every Osamodas spell was drastically changed since I last played

On the bright side, I get to re-assign all of my spell points without having to do the quest or pay for it  :cookieMonster:

And don't make fun of my main character's name, I made it a long time ago and copied my friend who had bad spelling :(

I played this way back when; good times, good times. In fact, it's where I got my username from. Also, if you've been around on the forums for awhile, you may remember I had the Raziel in two of my first avatars (pre-black-and-white-T days).

Anyways, I preferred playing Dofus Arena back when it was in beta 13 more than the MMO version, since it was full of strategy. The current version of Dofus Arena has the same gameplay concept, although it has all this extra stuff now that makes it less fun. Well, it's probably not less fun for people going from Dofus to Dofus Arena, but it certainly is if you went from beta 13 to beta II.

I've been waiting to try Wakfu for awhile, but it still isn't out of closed beta. eeeee

I've been waiting to try Wakfu for awhile, but it still isn't out of closed beta. eeeee

I know, it's been in beta FOREVER.

I'm considering starting a new character so I'm closer to people here who might want to start playing or are bored of their higher levels, but I don't know what class. I love Osamodas but I already have one, I'm also considering a Sram or a Feca.

Oh what some of the classes got reskinned too

This game has so many loveually suggestive characters in it it's ridiculous

I tried it for a bit but it's only a few hours of gameplay before you have to pay at level 20 :/

I like the grid based combat :U

I don't think there's a player level cap :V

And if there is how the hell did you get to level 20 in a few hours, unless it's been made easier than before

I like the grid based combat :U

It's very nice

Edit: Apparently I have Hammer Skill, Summoning of Chaferfu, and Striking (renamed Lightning Strike) on my Osamodas, awesome

Hey someone play :(
