ahem
Your history comes about for the sole reason of somebody else's history. Everybody does. All histories overlap. Like John Donne said,
"No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manner of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.." It's about death, yes, but the ideal of our unity with all other beings underlines the entire poem. I'm not saying learn every piece of history known to many; One shouldn't live in the past, of course. But one should also learn from the mistakes of both themselves and others, and be inspired by the acomplishments we see in everyday life. Learning is a major part of this "real world" people speak so often of. :o
