I feel like making a thread bitching about historical misconceptions that only Naive people think of:
Misconception #1: Germany started WW1
The Truth: No, just no. Anyone who even dove slightly deep into WWI history should know that a Serbian nationalist group murdered Austria-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which sparked countries in Europe to take sides between Serbia and Austria-Hungary. (Allies were with Serbia in case you didn't know)
Misconception #2: The Middle ages were a time where knights, chivalry, honest monarchies, happiness, and peace were spread across all of Europe.
The Truth: I only really see little kids believe all those bullstuff stories, but some naive people still fail to know what really happened. Corrupt organized religion, lack of technological breakthroughs, crime, disease, and many small wars made the middle ages one of the worst times in human history.
Misconception #3: Only the Soviet union escalated the Cold War
The Truth: America also did many things even before Reagan to put pressure on the Soviets. Eisenhower's U2 plane crash incident, Carter's grain embargo, retraction of SALT II, protest of the Olympic games, and US arming of West Germany and Greece were just a few of the many things that the United States did to escalate the Cold War.
