If your at the beggining, hide somewhere and when they come beat the stuff out of them.  You can pick up one of there guns too, but it takes all the ammo just to kill one of them.  The train might be a good place to use the guns.  If the guns aren't working for you on the train part just use the good ol spiked baseball bat and take advantage of cover.

The chef was really damn annoying, I got my ass kicked fairly quick.  I think next time a Defiler though. (Used it on the mailman and it took like an 8th of his health down :0)
