Author Topic: What's your story?  (Read 4848 times)

Post how you got to where you are now, in regard to the Internet and online games and whatnot. Your post can be as long or as short as you want, there are no requirements. Simply tell us where and when you got your start and how you came to be here, today.

I'll start with my story.

I was first introduced to a computer back when I was five or six years old. It was a really old Dell with a giant CRT monitor running Windows 95. My mom signed me up for an account on AOL Kids back when AOL was somewhat decent. I wasn't really into computers back then so much as I was my PS2 I got for Christmas when I was eight. I loved that thing so much and I had a ton of games for it. I still have the thing today and it still works perfectly, although my games collection has been significantly reduced due to the fact that our house was broken into a few years ago and many of my games were stolen (but not the PS2 which was very surprising).

As my interest in my PS2 gradually decreased, my interest in computers increased. My friend introduced me to my very first MMORPG; everybody's favorite, RuneScape. I loved RS so much, I played it nearly every day for several hours. After playing for about a year, I was an extremely experienced level 80 player. I would probably still be playing RS to this day if it weren't for what happened to make me quit. One day, a level 78 player wanted to fight, so I agreed. The fight was pretty evenly matched, up to the point where he killed me. He then proceeded to take all my stuff; I was carrying with me mithril chainmail, two adamantine longswords, and around 350K in gold, plus a lot of other stuff, such as runes. I would've had it in my bank account, however I had so much stuff that it wouldn't all fit in my bank account. I then logged out and never logged back in.

I started searching for another MMORPG, and I found one. One that I loved ten times as much as RuneScape. Disney's ToonTown Online. Go ahead, laugh at me if you will, but at the time I was still very young and I thought it was an awesome game. I played TT for about a year before I did something I shouldn't have and basically made my account unusable.

So after that, it was back to searching for another MMORPG. I tried all sorts of different ones; everything from Flyff to Guild Wars. I didn't like any of them. So I was pretty much game-less for a couple years.

Until one day, when I was messing around with the powder game on dan-ball.jp. I saw that good ol' advertisement on the side: BLOCKLAND. It was like love at first sight. I downloaded the trial version and I was instantly in love. I had to have this game. So, I bought it. Haven't regretted it once.

From the game came the forums. I would see an awesome weapon on a server and ask where the host got it, to be answered with "I got it from the Blockland Forums." I've learned a whole lot from these forums and I'd like to take a brief moment to thank the forums for what it's taught me.

From Blockland and its forums came the discovery of VALVe games and Steam; I now play TF2, Portal, Counter-Strike: Source, Garry's Mod, and Alien Swarm, with more to surely come along.

And that's my story.

So what's yours?

SeventhSandwich got his first computer at age 5.

It was a white macbook :3.

I started playing Club Penguin, then after that Sherwood Dungeon, then to Adventure quest, then to WoW, then to Blockland, then to Steam games, now to here.

Listen to my story... This may be our last chance...

First computer at 4-5, blablabla, no internet until 3rd grade, RuneScape, MapleStory, tons of other MMO's, bunch of forums inbetween.. And now I'm here. Four computers later.
I don't even run the Blockland client anymore. Hahaha

My story? It's exactly the same as your story, just one chapter behind.
I chased a man across the seven seas. The pursuit cost me my crew... my commission... and my life.

I had my first computer when I was 5 or 6.  I had some disks for it and played games on it and it wasn't my favorite thing to do, I had a GBC and Pokemon in it.  After a while I've been given a wonderful stuffty Dell 3550 (or 4550) that can run Runescape at lowest settings at around 5 FPS.  I was going around the internet looking for a half-assed game that I could run.
That's when I found it.

Post-Events;
I later got a better computer and play CSS and Combat Arms a lot.
Still with Blockland.

But....Blockland isn't half-assed D:

Got a laptop last year. Facebook then I saw my brother playing blockland so I got the demo. My brother went to steam, so I got his key. The the forums. And now I'm on steam too.
