My brother got the Longstrike and Recon, while I got the Deploy. The deploy kicks ass. The Recon restocks from the top, making it not very rapid fire.

No, it's due to the reverse-plunger design. Even with AR-removal and spring compressing it isn't fantastic, but much better than it is originally.
