Computer randomly asks me to restart?..

Ok, this has been annoying me forever. It started a few months ago, one or two I think. I tried to go onto teacherwebs and find my teacher's webpage so i could get the homework. My computer suddenly has a transparent black block thing go from top to bottom of the screen and it says: You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button.
Then it repeated in French, German, and some sort of Asian language. (had chinese-like writing)
Whenever I try to upload to anything other then .gifs to tinypic, it happens. If I try to attach a picture to a topic and post it, it will crash me.
help!
P.S, I have a mac.
