I see that as a kind of melodic metal. Am I somewhat imagining that right or is it totally wrong?
Nah, that's about right - perfect example, Lamb of God is generally said to be groove metal.
I'd obviously listen to rock. Right now I'm listening to a playlist of Diablo, Metallica and splashes of Eluveitie (and Ten Masked Men's covers of Sledgehammer and Cry Me A River) which is pretty damn cool.
My normal playlist consists of:
Dark Tranquility (formerly headed by Anders from In Flames, and quite similar) - Melodic Metal
Mors Principium Est - Melodic Death Metal
Universum - Death Metal
Lamb of God - Groove Metal
Slipknot - Heavy Metal
Turmion Katilot - Industrial Metal
Racer X - Hard Rock
Daysend - Melodic Metal
Brocas Helm - Metal
Eluveitie - Melodic Folk Death Metal (yes, FOLK DEATH METAL)
Dethklok -
Death MetalMostly odd songs rather than full discographies of each, comes to only 196 songs for 13 hours of listening time (which isn't much considering that it's literally on 24/7, there's enough variety to keep me happy)
