Author Topic: Retailers to Ban Steam Integrated Games  (Read 1454 times)

I only go to gamestop for nostalgic games like Tales Of Symphonia, Zelda: The Wind Waker, or I'll go for console games like Halo: Reach.

its clear that consoles are heading down the path of full out digital download.
next gen, i would predict that 50% of all games (even major titles) will be buy online only.

seems true
look at wii, integration of the virtual console and wii ware
dsi as well
when it comes to people who know what they're doing, it's nintendo even though they made the virtual boy
not to mention PSN and the Xbox store
hell, they all know that digital is the way to go
yay! the wii work out games have no purpose! gamers don't have to get off the couch for games now!

The next generation of gaming is going to be completely browser based, I bet you my left nut. Have you seen the Unity 3D engine? You can literally play a high graphics game on your web browser with no lag and not to mention that the game streams within a matter of seconds. It's freaking nuts. Unity 3D is going to become the next big company once they find the potential of their software.

It doesn't even need to be said in this day and age.

That said, I own more than $800 worth of games on steam.

More than $2000 if I'd bought them in retail stores here. Both of those are AUD figures, of course.

I mean look at it this way - I buy games on Steam for less than $60 when they're new. New games retail at $100 here in Australia. Digital downloads aren't killing the retailers here, the retailers are - they still turn something like $65 profit off each copy of a new game they sell, but the profit margin is irrelevant if you're losing customers.

is it true aussies pay more for store bought games then most the world?
(this is after the foreign currency math is done of course)

Is it just me, or are more and more games starting to use steam.

I buy online if I can, If games aren't available for download I buy them off the shelves because I hate waiting for delivery.

I've grown to like steam, but there are some things I wouldn't buy on steam, Oblivion for example.
Most of the modding community is working on the normal disk version and therefore some mods don't work on the steam version.

The script extender for Fallout 3 doesn't work on the Steam version.

Nooooo!
Now I have no other option than to actually JUST SIT IN MY CHAIR AND DO NOT GO TO THE STORE!
The horror!

I prefer buying games in stores simply because my internet speed is slow in my area and we unfortunately have the best line we can get from our current ISP. Otherwise I'd just buy online.
