Actually you don't
have to pay to become a hero. You can get hero days by being the last man standing in your town (Ie you're the last one to die, but you have to be killed in the midnight attack inside town.) and the hero days you get are based on how long your town survived.
HERO DAYS REWARD TABLE
dead during day 5 (between 0h et 23h59) or before = no award
dead during the night between day 5 and 6 = 1 hero day + distinction
dead during the night between day 6 and 7 = 2 hero days + distinction
dead during the night between day 7 and 8 = 3 hero days + distinction
dead during the night between day 8 and 9 = 4 hero days + distinction
dead during the night between day 9 and 10 = 5 hero days + distinction
dead during the night between day 10 and 15 = 6 hero days + distinction
dead during the night between day 15 and 16 = 7 hero days + distinction
dead during the night between day 20 and 21 or thereafter = 10 hero days + distinction
Also, how do I get a higher AP cap?
You cannot make your max AP higher, but there are a few drugs which make it go over 6 for a short while.(It after you use the extra the cap is 6 again.)
Twinoid 550mg - Brings your current AP up to 8(!) and the status "drugged".
Random Drugs - Gives 7 AP, makes you instantly addicted (even if you've never taken drugs). Also a small percantage to make you "terrified".
