That's right, I'm going to be a master debater  :cookieMonster:

Well not really, I want to join the debate team at my school but all the guys already in it won't talk to me about how debates actually work.
Does anyone here debate and can they explain some things to me?
I don't want to type it out unless I find some of you who debate.

consider every flame war you've participated in, a debate.

An issue is presented, both sides try to defend their opinions.

There you go.

Okay, might as well type this out, I don't really understand in what way the argument is constructed, or how much information I need, or anything really.

Atleast learn the rules first.

It's repreesenting an argument in a friendly way; You would typically debate in order to prove or defend an idea. It isn't that complicated, really, it's just forming a case in the first place that proves a challenge.

Debates are structed arguments. It is a give and take: a point, a counterpoint, a rebuttle, etc. But how they set it up in your school may differ. Some debates are just making points, others work off of one, others use factual based ideas, others use opinions.

After many a year of arguing on theistic religion I've learned a few things.

1: It's always good to remain on the offensive, as in keep pelting your opponent with questions. This will back him into a corner and make him ragequit out of frustration.

2: Have enough evidence and know the facts about your subject. If you allow this to happen then number one will happen to you. After that you'll look like a tard.

That's about it...
