Author Topic: Core 2 Duo E8500, worth it?  (Read 550 times)

I currently have a pentium D 3.0 ghz dual core in with my Gefore 9800GT, and I am wondering if buying this and swapping it out would make my games run MUCH faster.

Or would it be a little bit better performance? If so, I do not want to waste my money if it only makes games run a little more smoother.

I only think it will make it run a little smoother. But I don't know too much about it

It's compatible with your motherboard, right?
You wouldn't want to buy it just to find out it isn't.
I probably don't know what I'm talking about, by the way.

But I'm not sure of the improvements it would make.

Yeah, it's LGA 775.

Yeah, it's LGA 775.
I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that means it's compatible.

I think it would only really give you a slight boost (If any at all)

It wont be much of a difference. It might be a tad bit smoother, but nothing worth the money IMO.

Putting in a processor is part of computer building and you are basically post whoring

Sounds all good.

Don't even bother, unless you're willing to buy a new motherboard.

Just because the Pentium D processor in your computer is LGA 775, that doesn't mean the Core 2 Duo will work in your motherboard. I had a Dell that was compatible with an LGA 775 Pentium 4 and Pentium D, but I installed a Core 2 Duo processor into it and it wouldn't boot up, killed the BIOS actually.

ughgh

That's not good.

And just to confirm that it wasn't my PC being a typical Dell, I tried it in my mother's Dell (very identical to my old one) and it wouldn't boot up, just made the fan spin up very high, but still worked after I put the Pentium 4 back in.
