Author Topic: Why is my server dead to random people at random times?  (Read 1639 times)

My windows 7 nonport-forwarded laptop has the strangest habit of not letting people on. It wont time out the join server box, but stays there. Also it happens at random times. Iv had people on for several days now, but yesterday it stopped working, and still doesn't. This has been going on since last summer when i purchased the laptop.

thanks for reading.

console.log

my sis tried to join my server with another of my same key in the same ip, and the console had some odd activity on the host server.

this is serious, 90% of the servers had ??? ping today. something bad is happening

it shows up in LAN for some reason...

help would be appreciated.

It looks as if you started a server, went into full screen mode, then quit.

That only means they are yet to be pinged.

Every server hosted from your IP should appear LAN

thanks for answering those :P

i still would like to know what is wrong with my server. my sis can join in LAN but no one can over the net

oh, and i started the server, tried to join on other pc, and quit.

Someone in a topic in general discussion said something about how the server needs a client to connect to authenticate it. Have someone join by ip.

nonport-forwarded
Try port forwarding then?
And check firewall settings?

firewalls fine as of last time i checked, and windows 7 hates port forwarding. I think you may actually have to download software in order to portforward

Port forwarding is handled by your router, not your operating system.

I know, but you use your computer to port forward your router, and windows 7 cant do that.
all of the tutorials? none of that stuff is on windows 7.

I have Windows 7, and I've port forwarded for MANY different applications with no problems at all. It's ALL handled by your router, the only thing your computer does it provide a browser interface to your router. If you can get to any other web page just fine, you can get to your routers control panel. The only thing that varies between operating systems is getting to your connection settings to set up a static IP, which you don't absolutely NEED to, although you should. And honestly, its not that different, if you actually take the time to look around, you should find it.

Also, the IP than DrenDran provided is usually right, but in that case that it isn't, you'll need to find your default gateway yourself, the tutorial should describe that.
