I have Windows 7, and I've port forwarded for MANY different applications with no problems at all. It's ALL handled by your router, the only thing your computer does it provide a browser interface to your router. If you can get to any other web page just fine, you can get to your routers control panel. The only thing that varies between operating systems is getting to your connection settings to set up a static IP, which you don't absolutely NEED to, although you should. And honestly, its not that different, if you actually take the time to look around, you should find it.
Also, the IP than DrenDran provided is usually right, but in that case that it isn't, you'll need to find your default gateway yourself, the tutorial should describe that.
