Author Topic: Nuclear bomb threat?  (Read 12858 times)

Real or not, we are currently not using them in our army (At least, thats what they tell us)
Actually, we are. Recently, a ship-mounted energy weapon has been produced and tested, and it works just fine. It's basically a giant, really powerful laser pointer. We've been developing these types of weapons since the Cold War. SDI grid all over the US.
That's a special type of crowd control device used by Riot police. I don't think it does any actual damage, but from the documentaries i have seen on it, i would say it's safe to assume it hurts like hell.
We also have a vehicle-mounted microwave emitter that can make people's blood boil from blocks away. We never turn it up that high because it's more of a less-lethal weapon, so usually it's just used to bring people to their knees out of the overwhelming heat.

Oh and FYI a few days ago the first successful railgun was tested, and passed:

Keep in mind that the projectile is accelerated by magnetism, not conventional explosives. That sound and concussive blast are from the projectile breaking the sound barrier.

Oh, and

That satellite on the right isn't carrying missles, those are gigantic metal rods. It doesn't even fire the rods, it just drops them into the atmosphere, gravity does the rest. A single tungsten rod from orbit could potentially create a impact the size of a nuclear missile.

"Rods From God" or "Hypervelocity rods" are currently in development. It might not be too long until we have kinetic bombardment platforms.

Now that someone's here who knows what he's talking about (Yuki). I have to ask
If you think about it, it's probably alot harder than it would appear.

You have to shoot down a nuke that could flatten an entire county probably with nothing more than another missile, and even then the nuke will explode anyhow and probably rain down it's boiling, cancer-bearing flames and clouds of destruction upon the area.
Is that really what happens when a nuclear missile is shot down? I had always thought a special trigger had to be activated to cause the reaction, not just a passing explosion.

No, we don't.
Yes we do, they're experimental but regardless we do, and they are made as a means of missile defense.

Oh, and

We'll have low orbit ion cannons soon enough  :cookieMonster:

Also lol, half of you really don't know what you're talking about when you come into these threads. China will not help North Korea, saying North Korea has more nukes than Iran is funny because, Iran probably doesn't even have functioning nuclear weapons, and North Korea's nuclear program sucks a fat one. I honestly doubt that they would be able to successfully launch their entire arsenal without a hitch.

Silo doors not opening comes to mind. I don't quite know why.

"LAUNCH THE MISSILES! -2 hours later- "hey what are those falling from the sky? wait, oh my god its our nukes! we launched them straight up!!!! -booom-

No, it's not. A nuclear bomb isn't like a thermobaric missile, it has to engage a reaction before detonating (by compressing the tip of the bomb). You can shoot down a nuclear missile without causing the reaction.

On the topic of shooting down a nuke, Nuclear fusion will (probably, i'm no rocket scientist) not occur if the nuke is hit by conventional explosives, so I guess it could still explode and have (minor depending on where it's shot down, ie over an ocean, desert, canada, etc) damaging effects but not on a scale desired by those launching the nukes.

yuki beat me to it :(

This whole thread is 97% people talking out of their ass. 2% showing off the little knowledge they have. 1% Yuki.

I heard Electro Magnetic Pulses can't affect cars. Woot!
Seriously?  You all didn't know this was coming?  Iran and North Korea are nuclear, and America is just sitting by.  Yeah, I understand the alliance network would start world war three;  Is there some point where Obamaaaaaa needs to step in and stop this mess?

97%...

97%...

You are basing that off past things I have said, kiddo.

We have H-bombs and Tsar Bombs a thousand times more powerful.
We don't have Tsar bombs, only one was made.

lololol China would drop North Korea so fast if we invaded them
