Author Topic: Laptop died :( need new build suggestions.  (Read 2860 times)

Welp, after 1.5 years of being a good laptop, it finally died. Thankfully its around x-mas so I can buy a new computer. I'm hoping to build a new one. I just called my dad and told him to return my present, and were gonna talk about it. I'm sad though, my laptop was the first (and currently still) most expensive electronic I bought with my own money (2,200$). I'm hoping to build a desktop computer now, and make it good. I'm posting this off of my phone, so I would greatly appreciate it if you guys could put together a rig for me. This is what I need;

x- it must be under 1,000$
x- it can be either intel or amd
x- it needs at least 4gigs of ram
x- needs fans. Lots of fans
x- the case needs to be able to water cool.
x- preferably quad core, but it doesn't have to be.

I'm going to be doing a lot of hardcore gaming on this, and 3d renders.

How did it 'die'?
If it's really that good, repair it. It would probably cost less.

Or you can buy a desktop that will last you about 5 years.

I can't repair it without buying a whole new motherboard. Nobody can service it because its a laptop that I personally built. The mobo for it would cost roughly 450$.

You probably wouldn't need watercooling in an Antec 900. Like I tell everyone, my system runs slightly under room temperature even when I accidentally leave GMod open all night. (not that GMod is the most intensive game, but 10 hours running it without heating up is pretty awesome)

It's an Intel i5 (four cores/2.67GHz), 4GB of RAM, ATi Radeon 5850HD (IIRC), in an Antec 900. Not amazing but then I hate most games that are likely to really stress it.

Only complaint I have about the 900 is that the lower intake fan seems to be dying after it got to two months of uptime. If you shut your system down at night like I never do, you should be fine. And it's a little loud. But oh well.

Mind linking me?

Also I was more planning on building my rig. I'll. The main games I'll be playing;

WoW
Blockland
Minecraft
Killing Floor
Counter Strike: Source
Team Fortress 2
Recettear
Borderlands

And I think that's it :I

But I'll be working with 3ds Max a lot.

None of those games are super grahically intensive.

I think its pretty good, you probably aren't gonna use the 6970 to its full potential most of the time but its a nice card

my laptop at the moment is stuff it can not run anything i want to buy a alienware mx11 i thing for 1,300$ but the problem is that well my dad bought this for me only a cople months ago so if i buy a new one he will upset that the item he bought is no good so im going to wait to sell my laptop mayby mid year for 800$

I'd prefer a standard mobo because;

1. They're generally cheaper
2. They have more expansion ports.

I def wouldn't need that big of a hdd. I had a 250 in my laptop, and I never went over using 150 gigs. Like, ever.
Also that case is ugri :(

Does 3DS use hyper-threading? I'm too lazy to check.

Rendered models, composed music, hosted servers.
