Author Topic: Is there any way I could share the disk drive from my mac to my laptop?  (Read 1801 times)

Hello there blockland forums. Today I am in need of your assistance. I would like to know if there is anyway to share the disk in my disk drive of my Mac to my little windows 7 laptop. I have a disk I want to use but it's for PC and my laptop doesn't have a disk drive, my Mac does have a disk drive though. My laptop uses windows 7 starter and my mac's software is 10.4.11 (old, I know). I would prefer a free method. Thanks in advanced.

I had an idea for it.. but then i though naaw it would not work

arent the same hard drive tech used on both mac and pc? i would assume you could plus either one into the other.
might have to reformat it though for it to work.

Hmm, if you could find a USB With 2 cables you could put in both pcs and then enter driver?

If you're trying to share content, you cant because macs use a different encoding type. If you're trying to use a clean drive on both, I assume you'd just have to make 2 partitions with 2 different file encoding types. :o

I'm sorry but could you guys simply what you just said a bit. I amn't the most technical person so I didn't understand all of what you just said. :c

Essentially there's encoding types for 2 different kinds of hard drives, 1 that BIOS can read (windows and linux operating systems) and 1 that the macs can read. If you were to plug a hard drive used with windows into a mac, it wouldn't read because the files are encoded in a way that only windows and linux could read them, and vice versa with the mac style encoded devices.

Now there's partitions, which is basically splitting a hard drive into multiple pieces, so you could dual boot operating systems. If you were to make a partition for mac encoded files, and a partition for bios encoded files, you could do what you're asking.

I can't really simplify it much more :/

That's ok, I understand what you are saying now.

I am not wanting to get the mac hard drive into my laptop. I am saying something such as network sharing. I know that with some windows 7 devices you can share the computer data. So you could log onto your computer on a different computer. That's basically what I'm wanting but with mac and pc. So I could be on my laptop, put the disk in my mac, move where I want it to open through my laptop, install the disk onto my laptop and then play it. (Yes it's a game.)

Whaa..?

You gotta explain that a little better. From what I'm understanding you're wanting to do a remote desktop connection to install a game. O.o

FTP.

Do you even know what FTP is?

File Transfer Protocol.

That's for uploading stuff online.

Sort of.

You know the Windows Homegroup thing? I'm wanting something a bit like that but with more capability. If it's not possible just let me know and I'll lock this thread straight away though.
