It also says in wikianswers, i asked "Is Pandora a Planet?":
Pandora is a goddess in Greek mythology. It was used for the name of the planet in the movie Avatar, much as the other gods' and goddess' names were used to name the planets and moons in our solar system.

In astronomy it is also the name of a moon of Saturn and also an asteroid.
