Author Topic: Brick Playertype  (Read 3435 times)

I had this exact idea, except it could come in a few "flavors". In addition to a 2x2x1 brick, we could have a 2x4x1 brick player, and a version that is styled after walls made of 2x4s so that a "wall" of interlocking people can suddenly charge at you.

I chose 2x2x1 because you won't be able to turn. You also won't be able to move.

Let's keep this simple. 2x2x1 brick. Snaps to grid. Can't move or turn body. Can turn camera. No "ouch" when hurt. Transforms via item. Takes on the color of the player's chest. Oh, and the item can't be used while you're moving.

I can round the position, force 3rd person, negate speed, transform via item, and allow the item to work only when not moving. I can't do much else. I could make the 2x2x1 model, but I have no idea how to turn that into a bot.

invisible player that can't move, inside the brick?
That would cause problems. One of them is: What if it's a DM and a wall just blew up, then these use it there? You need normal brick detection and such...

I'd rather this be a model, as it'd be simple and the textures are accessible. You could blend into a pile of bricks from brick physics... Of course, if they turn that off, you're screwed, but meh.
i figured planting would have the error checks in it, and probably try to plant the brick before deleting the player/moving it/changing it, so it only goes if the plant is a success

or, like druid, change into a brick via item that, somehow, snaps into place. can that work?

couldn't you just round their position, plant a brick, delete their player, and mount their camera on the brick? then after undo it?

We made a duck playertype that looked like it was made out of bricks.

From a distance maybe, but it you could easily tell the difference between them relatively close. It should have textures, correct sizing and such. It's not right... You could make it better.

this isn't like the duck playertype though, as it should be stationary and all that, while also aligning to the grid

You're doing the exact opposite of my idea. You'd look like a brick and move around as it. Then, when you stop, you set down and look set down. But you don't align, so you aren't so hard to tell from everything else. It'd be unfair to allow looking around while stopped, hiding.

I like this idea but i think it should not be an item, just a playertype and i think you should be able to move when you are this playertype

If it were a playertype, setting it would become difficult. How could you dictate when and how you become it? Having it used as an item simplifies this.

i prefer it as an item, and disguising as a brick

Reminds me of prop hunt :o

But if it is decided to move, you should be a ghost brick when you move and when you stop moving you turn into the solid coloured brick.

I would really like this to be made. Too bad I can't script or model worth a <ahem>

There is a huge reason as to why I don't want you to move/rotate.

For one, if you could move, it would allow access to places you shouldn't be, such as a small hole.

Two, if you move, you would not be aligned with the grid, thus giving you away.

Three, if you could rotate, you would not be aligned with the grid.

Four, it would be buggy, glitchy, and hard to accurately do.

Five, I picked a 2x2x1 brick for simplicity.

New suggested feature: When taking on the chest color, it matches to the closet color in the colorset. If I could figure out how to determine the color, I could report back the best color to use in the provided colorset.

Also, I'm adding a poll.
