Lookin at gettin a Yiynova 19" tablet for Christmas/Birthday so I can draw on my computer, and thus my Photoshop, rather than my iPad. It will be larger screen, better quality, higher resolutions, and pressure sensitive. It'll be immensely useful in college too. Not a bad 18th birthday present, eh?

I need a drawing tablet with a display. Please send me links to the cheapest ones you know.

The Yiynova 10.1" LCD tablet is about $350 or something. You aren't going to find something decent for a lower price. There's a lot of value to the Yiynova gear. Wacom's Cintiq is hyper overpriced, but people pay for it because it used to be the only company in that market that delivered at least a good quality. The $600 19" Yiynova is easily comparable to the $2k 20" Cintiq model. The smallest one Wacom has is 13" I think, and it's $1k.

mind if i get your opinion on wacom tablets in general? i haven't looked into other peoples' views on their prices, so an eye-opener would be much appreciated.

i'm no regular artist, but i do occasionally run into moments of inspiration, and i was thinking of letting some cash collect somewhere for a $100 or less tablet. all i really need is for it to be fairly big (about as big as an 11x8.5 sheet of paper i guess) and have pressure sensitivity; anyone have any suggestions?

Do a good browse on Newegg and you'll come across a lot of tablets that are selling for way cheaper than what Wacom sells for the exact same thing. It won't be as diverse but you should always try.

Don't get me wrong, Wacom's products are very good. But you pay a premium for their products simply because they're Wacom. With new companies arising with cheaper solutions (i.e. Panda City's Yiynova), people can start to have the benefit of the doubt on whether or not Wacom's digitizer displays are worth the price.

So, is this just me or is this normal? I find I get better at drawing things simply by observing them and looking at other drawings of those things. Obviously, it helps to actually draw them, but still...

Nope. Basic observational learning. Something everyone has. Some apply it better than others.

So that 350 one is good? I've seen it before .  . .

Real quick question for you guys since I might be getting back into drawing.

I want to make sure that drawing by reference is alright. Is it akin to tracing, or does it actually help with visualization and things?
