i just made this so right now it looks good but by tomorrow i'll probably have noticed like 10000 flaws in it

also here's a version without the background (linked since it's basically the same image twice), since i'm not sure how much i like the background, i just threw it together in a few moments

I just use HB 0.7 mm lead in a mechanical pencil, nothing special. It's probably the paper, because it's pretty coarse and eats through lead, but allows for really dark darks.
