Um, how 'bout we not argue about hands and comment on art that was recently posted.

*Hint hint*

was that really necessary

it's unreasonable to expect people to do well?
that's an unfortunate truth, but really i don't expect many of you to do well at all, i'm just saying things for the sake of saying them

It is never unreasonable to desire good performance from others, it is unreasonable to expect good things from people. I do not expect everybody around me to do well, in fact, I do not expect anything from them until I know what their skill sets are and what they can do. What you're doing is not simply expecting people to do well, but expecting people to all have at least a minimal skill level in observation and mimicking what they can see.
Which is all kinds of wrong because that doesn't happen.
As far as I can see, you're making judgments based on the idea that everybody must be able to perform as well as you can. You may not find certain things hard, you may not think that drawing things from references is difficult, but I know that many people, including myself, struggle to even come close to Tophius' level of skill.
What I'm basically saying is kindly forget off with your "Oh it's not haaarrrddd" because quite frankly, it is hard. It may not be hard for you, oh mighty god-king of the arts, but I can tell you for a fact that I am not the only one who wishes they could have that degree of skill that Tophius displays.

Here's my left hand, drawn on paper and sepia'd by yours truly.

That's actually quite nice, I'm surprised.

Thanks, although I'm a bit confused as to why you'd be surprised. O.o

that's actually a pretty decent attempt! the linework is something you could look to improve on, but making more confident strokes is something that comes with practice and experience anyway. wouldn't hurt to spend a little more time on nailing down the shading, too. keep at it!

good observational drawing can be challenging but anyone can make improvements through frequent practice and the desire to develop a solid understanding in technique and your subject matter. do it right and its a great way to improve your imaginative works :)

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, my lines have always been a bit shoddy, but they're definitely improving, I've noticed that much. And I'm actually better at shading than that, I just didn't put much effort into it on this particular drawing because I was trying to focus mainly on getting proportions right, in addition to drawing a hand at a rather difficult angle. It's kind of odd; I'm not good at drawing people, but I can draw hands pretty well. :/

Was Master Blaser even criticizing Tophius' hand drawing? I got the impression that he was criticizing all of his drawings

But i suppose i was wrong?

Anyone can draw hands with references, but what make's Tophius's hands so nice is the technique he uses to make his lines flow so smoothly and appealing to the eye. That's something people do not just pick up instantly.

I'm curious, what programs do you guys use to draw on your tablet?
