I did use layers and I also had references. And I didn't use the straight line tool either.

wow so original
referencing is good
copying something directly and not crediting the original is not good
referencing an image does not make someone less creative
if anything it makes them more creative as it expands their "visual library"
so you have more starting points to think of things

Yes, referencing and building a "visual library" is pretty much indispensable as an artist. I'm not sure what the hell blouk is going on about.

Mouse vs tablet is individual.  Some people are actually better at drawing with a mouse, crazy as that may sound.

apologies if the colours are forgety
i did most of this with f.lux on and i tried to adjust afterwards but it was hurting my eyes

Let me be honest with you, what in the name of planet Earth is that

Spine's a bit too long, otherwise good. I like the expressiveness of the linework. Maybe something bleaker for the background, maybe some black and tarry liquid streaking down the wall, cracked floorboards...

I was mainly talking about heavy referencing to the point that you're just redrawing the picture you're using

I rarely use a reference and if I do it's very light referencing. Usually if I'm drawing someone else's character/trying new techniques or if I'm generally not happy with my art or want to mix something in

what the forget are you talking about
you just plainly insulted him for using a reference, not even knowing how much of a reference he was using

also what does this have to do with your art

anyways, using references is the only way to be able to become a better artist, you can't draw something if you don't know what it looks like

uh, i don't know if censoring exactly around the nipples will make it safe for posting on the forums

there is no censoring
that's just the lineart
or you can interpret it as her having incredibly black nipples
I was mainly talking about heavy referencing to the point that you're just redrawing the picture you're using
that's what you're supposed to do
it's called a study, and you don't say that it's your own image, just practice.

And this is why you aren't improving.
