i made it more leafy, and now it looks like a massive explosion instead



the coloring style i'm planning to use does not help its case



how to tree again??
i was thinking it's because the orange drawing uses more downward pointing curves while the red one's more spiky - is that it?

this looks more like a tree than the other one to me mainly because of those lines that are kinda thick
like it stands out to me
and the thinner lines look like the details

this other one just looks kinda weird
i dont think tree leaves are that jagged, even if it's just details you're trying to add

Blast from the past. I was just flipping around through old pages and found some earlier Matt designs.

I should include a short horror chapter in the books which involve all the earlier models of  the MATT unit. I hid my suckiness by overcomplicating ALL of my designs

For your tree problem, consider making leaves more uniformly directional and in perspective. It looks like the majority of leaves on the tree are facing upwards.

Heres a recent painting of mine. I feel like i can get somewhere with painting easily enough if i actually try. For now i gave up on the gun. If anyone else here is good at painting you can try to paint over it and see if you can make it look good or something.
