i don't understand
shift+click the branches with the menu for the pile of sticks open
after i build something right-click the pile?

Right click a tree and click "take branch:
Then use adventure > build fire and place the fire somewhere:
Keep that build mean open and open your inventory with ctrl I:
Now hold down shift, and click on the branches to move them onto the construction site then click build. (Note, the number on the left of the construction site menu is how much more of something it needs, the middle is how much of that item is already at the construction site, and the final number is how much has already been built):
Good now right click it and click 'light my fire'
You now have a fire!
If you have some raw meat with you, right click the fire after lighting it, then use crafting > cooking > roasted meat
to cook raw meat, the Q of meat cooked this way is soft capped by your survival skill.
