hey why not we have voice chat on blockland, you can chat to other people using it and you can also just chat like normal too :D.

Suggested dozens of times before. Not possible with the engine to transmit an audio script from each client. It would also require lots of client/server stuff.

It'd require engine coding, which can only be done by Badspot and he'd never agree to due to the high probability most people will complain about what they hear. Not even sure how good Torque's ability to do this is.

i guess your right about this like terrible stuff they hear, but how about like a button to turn off the voice chat from other people like say if you press it you can't hear it but other people can.

If it were ever to be made, it would definitely have to be turned off by default.

the reason this is probably impossible to do, is because the sound files being transmitted were not loaded with the server, and on top of that, are not even complete, as they are still being created by the user speaking.

I do wish that Badspot would update the engines audio code though, it'd be nice if we could stream audio like Lua is able to.

Torque can handle streaming audio apparently. I've been told Tribes has voice chat support. I don't get how, but meh.

Next version of Blockland, hopefully?

It would still be annoying. Chat messages are simple and more controlled, not to mention it's just overall better. And anywho, you'll have to mute a bunch of people at one point. If someone's just blaring music in the background, mute 'em? Then mute someone when their mother tells them to clean their room repeatedly? And ban the spammer, and ban the guy making a gratuitous excess of cusses? How are we to drama people? Will we have to record them, and have Badspot add a feature to the forums whereby you can add audio to a post? Do we have a chat recording ability so we are able to do so? We might not be able to hear them over other people. And how are we to censor it for the soccer-moms who are afraid their little darling child hearing someone say something inappropriate? Will their be a mic sent to you when you buy Blockland, will those who have it already have to drive to Badspot's house to get them? Will their be a Blockland approved mic, or just everyone buying their own? What happens when there are twenty or more players, all trying to get heard by screaming? Then there's the problem of team chat for deathmatches and voice commands and whatnot.

Tell me what voicechat would be like on this server:

The higher the playercount, the higher the level of insanity. Over fifty prepubescent forgets all screaming conveniently into your ear. Fantastic.

Even worse, if this server gets full:

Ear rape, much?

Imagine when it lags. Instead of idiots typing "LLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!" You'll hear idiots screaming it.

Suppose there's an argument. Do you ban two people just debating worthless bullstuff, or do you mute them?

By no means is voice chat as perfect as you people make it out to be. Teamspeak is fine, but that's where it should end.

Even worse, if this server gets full:

Ear rape, much?

Only 10 people in that server, while the first example has 55.

Maybe Badspot should just add the support for streaming but not voice chat, then Ephialtes could include it in RTB Connect or someone else can make a client mod, that people wouldn't be forced to download. Preferably in RTB connect so you could only voice chat with your friends.

Get Steam. Problem solved.
