Author Topic: whens RTBR comming?  (Read 9425 times)

What's so bad about floating bricks?  I can certainly understand it to a point, but one of the reasons I enjoyed RTB so much is because I could literally build anywhere!  Personally, by not having the option (I certainly wouldn't expect it to be default.  As I said, I can understand why you'd want it off), you're limiting creativity.  One of the things I've wanted to build more than anything else is a floating castle.  There's more to it than simply a floating building, of course, but you get the idea.  Essentially, I'm a fantasy buff, and I'd really like to see such a thing in Blockland.

So, can someone explain to me what's so bad about having the option of floating bricks?  I feel more confined, and less free to exercise my imagination without it.  Actually, it's possibly one of the things I look forward to the most for a future mod.  That, and the ability to change the jet boost level (I find it rather weak right now).

Having said that, I'll list some of the positives of having floating bricks off.  It forces people to think within the confines of the real world.  In other words, it forces people to exercise their minds, by forcing them to think in a way that they might not think otherwise.  It forces people to build realistic models.  Ones that, if you had the right peices, could be built in the real world.

While that's all fine and dandy, if I wanted to build a realistic model, I'd use my LEGOs to do it.  I like Blockland, because it allows me to build (usually) outside the confines of the real world.  It lets me build to match what my imagination can think up.  Having floating bricks off limits this, and instead makes it almost as though I was using my regular LEGOs.

Hopefully, people don't take this the wrong way.  I just can't understand why you'd want to limit yourself like that.  I'd like to hear (well, read...) an explanation.  Hopefully one that explains how *not* having the option of floating bricks makes Blockland better, and how it allows for an increase in freedom of imagination.  Thanks in advance for the thoughtful, and thought-provoking, replies.  If flames are to ensue instead (I hope not...), then I'll give you a "no thanks" in advance.  Mouser X over and awaiting reply.

theres a difference between tossing a baseplate in the sky to build on, compared to how everyone REALLY uses floating bricks.

What your saying is true, but can't you just make a transparent pillar and attack a baseplate to it?

although theres lots of obvious differences. blockland SHOULD be close to real life lego building. in most building standards

the advantage is, you dont have to buy 10,000 blue 2x4s and 10,000 red 2x4s and...
and multiplayer online is alot different then having a few friends over to step on legos and fight over the good pieces.

Hey, Bisjac!  You've got awesome builds!  I'm glad to see you're still around (I'm just getting back to Blockland...).  On topic though, you're right, which is sad, in my opinion.  Unfortunately, most people don't adequately take advantage of the building features that Blockland can offer.  As a result, floating bricks can often end up as spam.  Perhaps only the admin can lay floating bricks?  That'd solve the problem, I think.  Ask the admin, they set you one brick floating where you'd like it, and then you could build from there.  That way, the user wouldn't be able to spam the server.  If the floating brick becomes an issue, the admin knows where it's at, and can clear it out.  Again, I would expect this to be an option, off by default.

Yes, you could.  However, in my opinion, that would decrease from the overall build.  It would also be a waste of bricks.  I understand that lag in retail isn't the issue it is in RTB, so it's "okay" to do that.  Even so, I consider it an unecessary use of bricks.

I agree that, in general, it should follow the conventions of LEGOs.  However, I think the idea here (I could be wrong) is to compliment, and increase what LEGOs are fostering.  And that is, creativity.  LEGOs, in my mind, are to expand the realm of fantasy (imagination, what-have-you) into the world of reality.  Obviously, they can only go so far into doing that.  As far as Blockland goes, in that regard, I consider floating bricks (when used responsibly) an extension of that idealization.

So, I can understand, and even agree, to some limitation, due to waste/spam.  However, I would think that, when properly controlled and especially used, it would be a benefit more than it would be a hindrance.  Mouser X over and awaiting reply

Whoever thinks RTB will lag Retail is an idiot. I tell you what, I wont be including the new state-of-the-art "Lag Increasing" Technology.

RTB wont be including build through bricks, floating bricks or invisible haxx. It also wont include the editorwand.

What is with dUMBELLS becoming dUMBClerk.

Anyway, I am waiting for RTB 1.05 for blockland0002.

Since it will be out first.

You've made my year Ephi  :cookieMonster:

I still don't get why  RTBR would make sense.
So there will be no floating bricks,
no brick-in-brick,
no wand
and hopefully no movers.
So why make a RTBR?

If you want to play RTB on the old BL,
just do it.
But RTBR doesn't make sense.

Why shouldn't we keep the game lego-like?

Don't destroy BLs gameplay.
The Mod-Mess in old blockland was silly enough.

Thanks Blacky, good thing everyone at RTB agrees that we shouldn't make BL unrealistic and crappy. RTB has many things planned, and none of them make building weird like before.

Forget realism- brick in brick, editor wand and floating bricks suck for a variety of other reasons.

all blockland needs is more bricks, and more charactor creating st00f.

a revised pvp wouldnt hurt. its very lacking

Movers - No
Door(s) - Please.
A 1x5x5 brick that moves when you run into it and opens would be good. Also if you make a door add Key please, I loved RTB's key wahahaha.

I'm not asking for Movers or any crap, I just want a door so players can and can't get in ma House. That Gives me an idea. ID key Trust =D.
