Author Topic: NEW QUESTION: Dust, air, space and the xbox. Is mine safe?  (Read 1164 times)

I know I've made one or two xbox threads lately but I'll stop after this one hopefully. I got my xbox for christmas so it's not that old. When I turn it on or start a disk up it will make a buzz noise for like, one to two seconds and then stop. It doesn't damage the disks or anything and the fan is still going. What's on-screen isn't effected either. Is this just it starting up and nothing to be worried about? (I hope.)

EDIT:
It's now doing it in the middle of a game for much longer. I need advice/help. :c

Thanks,

Ok, final, final questions.

This is where and how my xbox is placed.

It's a cold room with a bit of dust. (It's an old house.) This will change by Feb 16th when I get my new room. By then it will be on a nice cold desk in the open air along with my wii. But for now, does this look ok?

Mine's been doing that for a while and it's fine.

How long is 'a while'?

If you're that concerned about it just send it in for repair under warranty.

What type of xbox is it? Old or new?

See, I'm asking whether I should be concerned or not. :c

Is there any dust by where you set it? this happened once and i moved it to a dust-free place and it worked.

It still works but there is a bit of dust where it is. My house is a very old and dusty house so I can't put it anywhere with no dust at all though. Also, it still works perfectly fine. I sort of had a thought it might just be the fans starting up. Could this be it?

It's probably just the disk spinning.

Is the game you have in installed to the harddrive?

No, but I think I just found something.

You may hear several types of noises during the typical operation of the Xbox video game system.

During typical operation, an Xbox console can make any one of the following noises:
Buzz: You typically hear this noise from the disc tray when you turn on the power or turn off the power.

I think this means it's ok. Would you agree guys? :D

Yea. If it's only making it during start up and it doesn't last long, I'd say you're fine.

The only other thing I think you should try is positioning your xbox differently. If it's laying horizontally, set it vertically and visa-versa.

It's standing up. If I put it lying down it won't get as much ventilation as it should at the top and bottom. This is all going to change when I get my own room in Feb though. I'm going to have it laying flat on a nice cold desk with lots of ventilation. :D

But thanks guys, you've been a help.

Ok, it's still doing it on start-up and sometimes now doing it in the middle of a game for much longer. I need advice/help. :c

IT WAS THE DISK TURNING. :D

I just put my xbox on it's side and now it's perfectly fine. c:
