Author Topic: Quantum entanglement - this is some cool stuff  (Read 2328 times)

Holy crap, this sounds exactly like the tech they use in Mass Effect for their trans-galactic messaging using the hologram chat thingies (at least for private paired systems anyway, hence the entangled atoms).

though i find it odd that that's the only thing anyone's focusing on.
Really? Even a quick glance at Wikipedia shows that there are many applications of quantum dots and related nanomaterials being actively researched.

No stuff, where do you think the designers of Mass Effect got the idea?

Radio waves work perfectly fine anyway
Not when you're 20 lightyears away from earth and being attacked by pirates.

What's Earth going to do, send ships that will take 20 years to get there? (Probably much longer time than that (~200 years?)  but whatever)

Okay, so lets assume we have 'warp-drives' (in the same sense that we have flying cars now, because if a bunch of loonies dream it up, it will be fact in 50 years)

Why doesn't the ship that's under attack just loving run away?

Riiiigght.

Quantum Entanglement is a suggested method of communication that would allow crystal-clear instant messages between stars and space ships.  This could establish reliable internet connection on a computer onboard a ship that is ~20ly away from Earth.
and just imagine how fast it'd be 3000 miles from your location!
OH GOD
I LOVE SCIENCE

The point I was trying to make was that radio waves would literally take years to reach another star.

Very old... but still loving awesome.

In 2006 scientists teleported a photon approximately 79 miles and made the horrifying discovery that anything that is teleported will die and be copied at the other end of the quantum leap. Fortunately, the copy will be exactly like the original. This means if they learn how to use the same method on larger things we haz beam me up Scotty.

Nice.
Think about using this with cybernetics on the battlefield.
I've always been interested in the above and combat.

is that so~
i guess the stuff i read just doesn't care then.
