That's what Boot Camp is.
Still have to pay for shipping of course. Though getting sent a CD is kind of pointless when you can make your own.

I didn't really read the rest of the topic but you actually DON'T have to pay for shipping.

I can't get codeblocks linux version to compile anything, and the windows version crashes when I try to type "else".
:/

Installing alongside Windows, no.
Installing in place of Windows, probably.
Just testing, definitely not.

What? Ubuntu gives you the option to add a second partition and dual-boot in installation? Do you even have it?

And Xubuntu would be a lot better for a practical server. If your just some 15 year old kid who doesn't know how the Console works then you should use Lite.

Last time I downloaded Ubuntu I couldn't figure out how to put Java on it :U

sudo aptitude install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin

Naw, my first laptop is Ubuntu only. C:

However they do give you the option. Not sure why whether or not I have it matters.

Is there way to keep my files if I switch OS?

http://www.dropbox.com/ is the solution for about 2GB of it. If you dual boot, you can just keep dropping 2GB at a time.

I really, really want to use Ubuntu most of the time but I do way too much gaming to do this. I recently tried Haven and Hearth on it and I can't even get that to work. Almost everything I do doesn't work on Ubuntu, but I love it so much. It's speed, grace, look, loveiness. :(
If anyone can lend me a hand in setting it up so I can actually do most of the things I like to do I will hug you.

I seriously need a loving set of console commands to open what is basically the windows equivalent of a zip package.

Trying this again on my mac OSX. Once it installs I would love for someone to tell me how to dual boot it.

Join the club :(

Oh hey bro, this is pretty sweet.

It has a lot more in common with an msi file, and no, you should be able to do it all through a gui. If you're downloading debian packages off the internet just double click on them, if you're downloading software through the software center or packages through synaptic it should just work. I'm pretty sure I always installed java through the software center.

If you want a fancy easy to use web interface, there's always http://www.getdeb.net/welcome/

I don't have ubuntu installed anywhere right now so I can't really answer any questions, although I'll probably set up a vm tomorrow, as well as explain how to set up ubuntu in virtual box so anybody can play around with it without having to install it (or any other os you might want to try out).
