There was some game that let you control the landscape with a gun.

Red Faction allows you to destroy most of the environment... to an extent.

No, not exactly.
For starters, there are no vehicles.
No squads, And it has gadget things to enhance gameplay.
I guess you can call it the same thing, but the only thing i find similar is kits and a Destructible environment.
