These pictures are taken from the X-Moto site, therefore I do not own them, blah blah blah. Since I suck at writing things about games, I'm also going to take things from their "The Game" section on their site.

Basic Gameplay

A number of strawberries* are typically spread around each level, which generally consists of a complicated landscape seen from the side - i.e. much like islands in the sky. You need to collect all these berries to complete the level - when you've got the last one, you should find the sunflower* which will complete the level when you touch it. Variations to this basic gameplay may be found around some of the levels.
Your motocross bike is likewise seen from the side, and you control its throttle, braking, and simple changes to the attitude by jerking the bike back and forth. Additionally you can change the direction of your driving, by rotating on the spot.

*you can change these items (strawberry and sunflower) if you make your own level.

Controls

You control your bike using the keyboard:
Up arrow - Accelerates
Down arrow - Brakes
Left arrow   - Rotates it counter-clockwise
Right arrow - Rotates it clockwise
Space - Turns around and drives in the other direction

Note that the above keys can be configured to something else to suit your needs.

Additionally, some other keys can be pressed while playing:
Escape - Pauses the game, and opens the in-game menu
F12 - Takes a screenshot and places it in the game directory

The rest of the stuff on the site is not written in very good english, so I will attempt to rewrite it:

Replays

Replays can be saved and stored on your computer. By default, replays are saved every time you complete a level, but I suggest turning this off, as after a while it could load up a ton of replays.

with web connection:

replays are sent to a system of 'validation', and if you have beaten everyone else's replays in terms of time, you will get a record. If you look up at the screenshots again, in the top left corner, under the time, you will see 'private room' names, such as IRC. You can make your own private rooms. The default room is WR, and many people compete for WRs.

without web connection:

you can still play X-Moto without web connection, it will just take away the features of having an online competition.

Important Notes
  • Press F9 to enable Ugly Mode. This will take away all of the graphics, thus causing a lot less lag.
  • You will start with two hundred levels, but if you really get into it and like the game, I would suggest going and downloading the full level pack of 2300 levels, and more every day.
  • If you want to develop levels, you have to download Inkscape and download the 'inksmoto' extension pack from the X-Moto site.
  • Press "Levels" and then press "Network" and "Connect" to go onto the network. On the network, you can see other people's "ghosts" and watch them play. This is quite fun.
  • X-Moto is out for Windows, Mac, and Linux. However, if you are using Mac, every time a version comes out their macdev is on vacation or something, and therefore there isn't that version on mac for like, 3 months, which sucks. It's happening right now with 0.5.5, but if you want to play and you're on mac, scroll down on the homepage and download 0.5.4, which is almost as good and it works.
  • If you are using 0.5.5, there are physics levels that you can get records on. If you are not using 0.5.5, you will not be able to save replays even though you are able to play the levels.

Hope to see you on sometime. If I am on, I am most likely on the X-Moto network.
