Remember when they used their masks period?
I remember several times in the original comics there was a situation where someone had to go somewhere fast, so they used the mask of speed, or they had to go underwater and used the mask of water-breathing. And when the Toa Nuva's powers were drained, Lewa makes a remark about how he was swinging through the trees then suddenly his mask stopped working or something.

They were the original.

Therefore, they are THE Toa.

Pohatu and Gali were the first ones I got, too. They're also my favorites.

I like the look of the original Bionicles. The ones that came after just looked too flashy/slick. The older ones actually looked like they were just robots, not some talking humanoid thing.

I was calling them Toa Mata before it was official. After the Toa Nuva, Toa Metru, and Toa Hordika, just referring to something as "Toa" could mean any of 24 different sets.
