Author Topic: M11X Ordered  (Read 1373 times)

Today, I ordered an alienware laptop. I got the most basic one (core2duo), and I didn't change it all that much except add 2 gigs of ram to make 4 total gigs. I have a few questions about it.

1. Is the fan as loud as people say it is?
2. What are the pros of the m11x?
3. What steam games should I get? ( Already have gmod, left 4 dead 2, CSS, killing floor, portal, and tried to buy fallout 3 goty edition, but steam was an asshat and rejected my card for just this game, not anything else)

If you've ever used an M11X, I would like to hear your thoughts.

I can answer 3 for you: Get TF2.

Other than that, no clue because I'm poor.

Keep in mind that we're dealing with a lot of computing power packed into a very small space. This translates to the fan being on much more (and sometimes all the time, even at windows idle) than on larger systems. We also only have one fan in this system, so it has to run at higher speeds than on systems with multiple fans or larger thermal solutions.

Who is that a quote from?

Haha he ordered a dell in a shiny case.

Don't buy alienwares.

I hear they're well built and good performance wise, what's the problem if you have the money?

The only ones that aren't overpriced are like the lowest laptops.

The desktop builds are incredibly overpriced.

Yes, I used saved money, so I bought this. I agree with sirrus.

Wrong. Dell just owns Alienware, Dell doesn't manufacture em.
Ontopic:
I have one, got it this x-mas. It has chomped through my library of games, I have the same model as you. Plays L4D on high settings easily, same goes with TF2, Gmod, and HL2. Portal has no lag at any time. But, whenever I record, the framerate does go significantly lower.
I hardly record anyway, I just play the games. :P

Good for you. I'm glad you saved up and aren't spoiled by hypothetical rich parents.

This, you're pretty much buying a laptop with the graphic power of a gtx 200 or so, and the processor is horrible from the info im seeing.

It's integrated graphics that's only good enough to support a laptop that small.

The processor is the same processor as the Macbook Air which is the worst laptop I've ever seen.
