Author Topic: HOLY stuff COMPUTER THREATS WAT DO  (Read 3952 times)

Ive had stuff like this pop up. Funny thing is that its after I click something, and the Internet toolbar was still up. And when I looked to the side, it had added a box that looked similar to my control panel thing. I couldnt stop laughing at the epic failure it was.

It's even more of a failure when you're running Linux or Macintosh. :cookieMonster:

If your desktop changes that's not a good sign.

It might be fake, but what program is the screenshot of?
My background did not change. Something called Smart Internet Protection 2011. I did not install it, neither did anyone else. Also, I caught a nice look here...

Oh, this reminds me of something I wanted to post a topic on but never did for some reason.

On my computer at work, my company installed Norton antivirus on every computer and it periodically does full system scans when I'm not at work*. Every once in a while, it'll turn up a malicious cookie or some kind of minor adware. I'm wondering, with antivirus programs that you pay for, do they make up thread just so you think you invested your money well? If not, that's kind of amazing because all I do on the internet on that computer is check my email, idly read MSN articles when I'm bored and sometimes surf Wikipedia.

Absolute failure.

EDIT: Trojan.FakeAV anyone?

Gah, how do I get rid of this? Every once in a while, a pop-up of the damned program will appear and make a really loud pig squeal. Scaring the forget outta me, I disabled my sound.

Most likely scam...I haven't had a noticeable virus in almost 3 years O.o

I've been thinking that, too. Probably uses some randomizer to create a random and unique virus/cookie name. I've gotten my internet disabled for about 2 weeks once, (:'c) and it would come up with these cookies sometimes. There's no possible way I could of gotten those.

Huh. This is interesting. My antivirus program called Spyware doctor reported 200 viruses a day. And I'm like- The FU?! My computer is running just fine!

Open task manager > Close the process tied to it > Run virus scan

This is obviously scareware.

I hope you didn't install what your, "antivirus" wanted you to.

Your antivirus must be a piece of stuff.

This rogue program deliberately displays fake alerts and uses scare tactics to make you think your computer is infected with malware.
Hm.
