Try talking to your mom reasonably. I mean its one god damn ring, I personally wouldn't give a stuff, but if you care that much then talk like an adult. A new book for one wine ring doesn't make much sense either. Your mom is probably a stressed women and anything something happens like that give her god damn hug and say you love her. My mom is very strict I know  what its like. The words "I love you" stops any argument for me. You may think I sound foolish but try it.

A way to crush your parent's heart is to tell them they love you during or after an argument, and thanking them for everything they have given you, even if they are really forgeted up in the head, then just walk away.

About the welt, I rarely ever bruise. My friends call me 'metal man' because it takes significant force to even make a red mark on my skin. I also can stick pins through my finger and not feel pain.
