It's their child and they should have the say in whether they want to go through the pain of delivering it or not.

...and not the child whose life is at stake?

A human :cookieMonster:

Looking at it from a standpoint of pure logic and technicality, that is indeed a human being.

they are in there, thinking, "why the hell dont i have a brain yet."

My opinion is that the only time it would be acceptible to abort a child is if the mother's life is in danger from it or if it was a rape baby. But ultimately, the choice is up to the mother as she may want the kid to experience life as she's had her good run, or use the child as a symbol that even babies brought on by rape can still be good people. That kinda deal.

It would put a lot less strain on the system for unwanted children. There are children born everywhere at any given time, so there won't be an impact.

If I was aborted, I really don't think it would have mattered. Everything in the world is based on chance and things just happen. The lack of existence of one child doesn't mean very much.

no, Imo aborting a child is murder. Many people, myself including, believe that there is a heaven, God, etc. And if that's true then you just sent someone to heaven without even getting a chance to live life. Also, if you don't want to raise a child, then send em to an orphanage or something. Don't just kill him/her!

or being saved, what if the mother knew the baby would not grow up acceptably and end up regretting life? What if she didn't have the means to support it? Should she still be ashamed of it? Although it's true she could always, give her child up for adoption, maybe she just isn't ready.

Looking at it from a philosophical utilitarian standpoint, that life is worthless because it isn't developed or sentient. The cellular structure isn't exactly independent.

Is an Egg a chicken? No, it's not.
From a logical standpoint, it's also still not a human. It doesn't have any of the components of being a human being aside from some genetic code and basic stem cells. It has the potential to become a human. It isn't a human yet.

Utilitarians are known for great things like genocide and suppression of human rights, go you.

A baby isn't a human, it's a hardly a neophyte, it has the potential to become a human.

"If they're going to die they'd better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

When a baby is born, it becomes a human. It has become independent of the mother and has begun learning.
And if that's true then you just sent someone to heaven without even getting a chance to live life.
A. So? They get sent to paradise instantly, seems awesome to me.
B. Billions of "potential" lives are killed every day in a fun activity called "procrastination". Every one of those cells had a chance at living life but they died instead. Oh no!
C. Heaven and Hell don't exist.
Also, if you don't want to raise a child, then send em to an orphanage or something. Don't just kill him/her!
So they get lost in the adoption system, never get a chance at success, get missed in a system chocked full of other ditched children who grow up loathing their parents that they may never know with hundreds of other little kids going through the same hell? A+ stuff there. That stuff is forgeted up, do you have any idea how many kids there are in the adoption system? Do you know what kind of stuff those kids go through? Psychological trauma is abundant in adoptees, and the Self Delete rate is triple that of normal children. If anything, we want to EMPTY and ABOLISH the adoption system. Children should be born to a couple who legitimately love each other and their child, or not be born at all.

When a baby is born, it becomes a human. It has become independent of the mother and has begun learning.

When a baby is conceived it becomes a human. It has begun development of it's critical body systems that will one day be another vessel for another mind. It is well on its way to cognitive development and complex thought.

This is such a stupid argument. Spilling paint =/= vandalizing The Last Supper by Leonardo de Vinci

Now burning the the painting halfway through painting it...

...and not the child whose life is at stake?
Yes, because undeveloped children can make decisions.

Yes, because undeveloped children can make decisions.

Because children can make decisions-

Oh wait, children can't make legal decisions. Maybe abortion should be extended until the child turns 18.

Here's our disagreement. I don't think the being becomes a human just because the body works, a human being is not flesh and bone, a human being is mind and soul. If a body is braindead, it's not a human. A human being can think and learn and speak and feel and smell and see and tell its mother from a ceramic vase. A human is emotion, not function.
