Author Topic: Does this look like a good gaming desktop?  (Read 1164 times)

Right so sometime this year (could be a long way away) I am determined to get a good gaming pc. I just want to know whether this would be a good one.

Specs:
Processor:  AMD Athlon II X2 260 'Regor' @ 3.2GHz x 2 cores
Motherboard:  Gigabyte GA-M52LT-D3 nForce 520LE
RAM:  2GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
Graphics card:  ATi Radeon HD 5750 1GB
Hard drive:  500GB sata II 7200RPM hard drive
Optical drive:  DVD Rewriter
PSU:  500 watt PSU
Case:  Asus TA-D21, Midi Tower Case
OS:  No operating system (would get Windows 7 for it though)

All for £440.

Even though it could be a long time away I want to know if it's good enough now so I have a target for my money to get up to.

And no I'm not building a computer because I can't. No computer knowledge. So don't even ask/tell me to build one.

AND YES I GET IT IT NEEDS MORE RAM ASDF.

Notes of parts: nvidia gt 430
Amd Phenom II x2 555 "Calliso" Black Edition @ 3.2 x2

If this can runs Sims 3 or minecraft, im in

Its decent. For that money I guess. The graphics card is out dated (i made the mistake of buying that one) and if I were you id grab 2 more gigs of ram.

The Processor isn't the best either.

but hey, for that price its good. probably can't run the most recent games on anything but low settings though unless you upgrade the gpu.

Also, im not too fond of the Athelon series to be honest.

Is it easy to update graphic's cards and CPU's and things like that?

And I'd probably buy more memory anyway.

Well, with a prebuilt computer it can be a bitch.

Also, if you're comfortable with replacting a gpu and a cpu why not just build your computer from scratch? Those are 2 most possible dangerous things to install.

Just buy some anti static gloves and you'll be fine. Its pretty easy to build a computer, and I'm willing to help every step of the way.

The rig I linked all the parts for you is a hell of a lot better than this one.

Hmm. I need to think this over a bit.

Also I'm not going to be playing the highest end games ever on max settings. I just want the cheapest thing that can run things such as Portal 2 when it comes out and things with about that level of running. So if it can do just that it would be nice.

Hmm. I need to think this over a bit.

Lemme ask you a question. Can you use youtube or google?

If so you can build a computer.

If its your first rig, it'll literally take only 2-3 hours to build.

This is like the 19th or 20th rig I've built, I can assemble in like 25min.

Its fun :3

Too little RAM perhaps? I'd suggest 4GB.

The things that are sort of stopping me from doing it are

A. I don't know stuff about the insides of computers.
B. My parents would probably be sort of against it and try and take control even if they did say yes.

Also with the price I sort of don't want higher than £440. Remember this might take a while to get all the money I'm just wanting to know what I'm getting when I DO have the money.

440 EU is quite a bit of money, I think around $700 for that money you can assemble a pretty solid build.

I'm working in pounds not Euros. :o

Uhm. In that case that's like $800?

Which is even more money.

But I'll explain this later I'm gonna take some more medicine and go to sleep, I feel like stuff D:

Just look up tons of "how to build a computer" videos on YouTube. After like 1-2 days of watching video I knew tons more about computers and felt confident building my own, and like you I knew hardly anything before.

If you get it, buy some extra RAM.
