1.) Notebook can replace 3 or 4 heavy textbooks
I've never seen a heavy textbook. But If you're looking for a heavy BOOK, come see my mom's New Lexicon dictionary. It's got a full dictionary, medical dictionary, thesaurus, the United States Constitution, and several other features. That thing weighs several pounds. But heavy textbook? Ha. All the books at my middle school, when I was there (homeschool ftw), were tiny ._.
Why do you people need netbooks or computers for school? Try going to a library for research on things. I'm sure a good library will have plenty of things that you'll need for a good report. The only thing you'll really need a computer for in the way of research is if you can't find the information needed or can't find anything to clarify on a subject.
I also don't get why people use calculators on their computer so much. Surely it's not that hard to learn math? I've learned myself that it's easy to preform math equations by pen and paper (I'm not allowed to use a calculator unless specified by my book).
And this whole thing about using a computer for a dictionary because you can't figure out how to spell a word, so you go to spell check? Well. Go get yourself a good dictionary and go by the letters of the word you know. With a bit of looking, I'm sure you'll be able to find the word you're looking for. Looking for synonyms? Get a thesaurus.
Before you jump on me, "Oh that's not the whole point of this!", let me finish. Really, the only people needing to use a computer are, in fact, the teachers and staff. That's because, in the teacher's case, there may be some special grading form that can't be solved with a pen-and-paper form. However, I doubt this. But moving on, the office may need computers for keeping role, records, and back-ups.
Again, moving on: Yes, sometimes the students DO need computers. This may be because there is an education program, such as coding, typing (do they even have those any more?), and other things. Another thing may be because they HAVE to do the research at the school rather than as homework. But supplying kids with a laptop would more than likely lead to the students goofing off more.
If you're going to skip that, at least read this: So to sum it up, computers or laptops for the students isn't exactly necessary unless there is a computer program for the students that, obviously, requires a computer. That reason, or because the students have to do their research at the school rather than as homework. But if it were homework, the information they're looking for could easily be found at a library or by asking family members. Letting everyone at the school have a laptop could lead to problems.
Anywho, that's all I've got. Please correct me if I'm wrong anywhere in that.
