On January 24th, 2011, Sick Kids hospital identified an overabundance of swelling and arthritic buildup in my left knee. They thought it was a setback, but when they examined the rest of my joints they found that it was only the one knee that was swelled. They signed me up for an operation to have my knee injected with an antidote that would remove the arthritic material and swelling. I went for the injection yesterday (Friday, February 18th).
When I went in for the operation, because of my hyperalgesic trypanophobia, they sedated me with the same stuff that ended up killing Michael Jackson. Even though I was worried that it would kill me (lol), after about 20 minutes the ceiling was moving around like tetris blocks and by about 9:45 I was out like a light.
stuffty thing was, I woke up a little when they had the needle in my knee. It felt like they were breaking my leg back and forth multiple times. The needle went into the front of the knee, then behind the kneecap and joint and all the way to the back. After they pulled it out I fell asleep again.
When I woke up from sedation completely, I was in a hospital bed with bandages around my knee and IV in my hand. When the doctors asked me how I was feeling, for some reason (according to my parents) I said "bigger".
They told me that I could not walk on my knee until sunday afternoon (~48 hours) or else the medication in my knee would not be affective.
I've been hopping around the house on one foot and I'm getting really good at it. So far, I am able to move around, go down stairs, up stairs, take medication, get dressed and just stand up, all on one foot. I have yet to fall over or trip on anything. Discuss.
tl;dr I got an injection in my knee to clear arthritis and swelling, and they put me on a sedative and it was awesome. I can't walk on the knee so I have to hop around everywhere and I'm forgetin' pro at it now.
