Author Topic: Monitor is acting odd.  (Read 1873 times)

Since you guys are the tech nerds of the world I figured I'd come to ask you.

Lately, over the past few weeks, my monitor has been getting almost like a turbulence on the actual display itself, where the screen display will shake side to side and the edges will cringe up and where the screen itself goes in it will turn to static. Think of it like a stuffty TV reception like with bunny ears, only with my monitor. I was just curious as to what might cause this. There are also the occasional lines of static running across the screen causing distortion of the display. Note none of these last longer than a small fraction of a second.

Would the monitor be dying, or would it have something to do with the video card, improper power supply, or what? It's really annoying. D:

What type of monitor is it?

Hm, try wiping any excess dust off it and possibly hairs from animals which might cause static.

Buy New Monitor

I have no idea what model or anything it is, it's a hand-me-down from my dad since he got a new flatscreen one that's enormous.. it's a Dell, anyway. Here's what I got from DxDiag, I don't know if this helps or not.

I had jus read one of Monocle's topics and read this as Moncole is acting odd.

GeForce FX 5200

On-topicly, I doubt that your piece of crap card which can't play RuneScape is actually the problem. The monitor is the most likely candidate, although you need a new GPU anyway. Beyond that I can't help you, sorry.

Is it a big heavy thing with a glass front window?

Yes.

I'm browsing on Dell's website for it to see if they even have it. :o

Nothing.

Isn't there like a model number on it somewhere? :U

Then it's a CRT. I've been having problems like this with mine lately, too. Probably just the electron guns in the back messing up a bit. Nothing to really worry about unless it's really frequent. Then you might wanna clear away anything near it that might be interfering with it (pressing the DEGAUSS button on mine every now and then fixed it.)

It happens when it is shaken to much.

It's becoming more an more frequent, maybe a few times a minute now, sometimes it's even worsening but then it's done for a while. Nothing really should be interfering with it since it just randomly began doing it and nothing really should interfere.

Also what is bolded. :o

You're an idiot.
