IMO that's completely his fault and he totally and utterly deserves it. There are 1,000,000 other things he could have done besides ripping it out of their hands.

I mean, come on. That's grade school stuff, you just don't do that. Maybe if he was SMART, he could have called the police, and the girls would have got in trouble, not him.
