Author Topic: People that shrug off obesity because of their "Metabolism"  (Read 5124 times)

Horse richard. being fat is a result of not exercising and eating too much stuff.

Actually, it can have a stuff ton of causes.

it all links to the intake/output ratio of calories and fats

My metabolism is fast as hell, I'm insanely skinny, get no exercise, and have a poor excuse for a diet :D

Once I have my own place though, I plan on going on daily morning jogs and stuff, my lifestyle is defiantly going to catch up to me someday if I don't.

Naturemon, If you wanna start sports and stuff you're gonna have to eat home-cooked meals high in fat.

Try eating pork stew. Ate a bowl once and the next morning I put on a pound.

Eww sports, I am good at basketball though. I just said I'd work out, nothing about sports :p

Either way, it's still physical effort.

If you don't have a body to shape in the first place it ain't gonna work.

I'm not trying to shape my body, I think you are missing what I'm trying to do here. I'm trying to not be overweight, not trying to be fit.

If you're insanely skinny and a poor diet that doesn't affect you, why are you even trying?

Because, I've heard that eventually your metabolism will slow down.

My metabolism is crazy.. Hell, I'm trying to gain some weight(not exactly fat), but I've been stuck at around 110 for two years

True, but the stuff that is actually "stuff" is the stuff we all believe to be healthy is the point of the Fat Head movie. Saturated fat is the healthiest thing for you, carbohydrates are the worst.

ditto

carbohydrates are the worst.
Whoa whoa, hold on here. Carbohydrates are great, fruits and vegetables are almost all crabs. The problem is with the stuff like excessive grain consumption that throw your blood sugar out of whack.

Fat-Head was a good watch. I learned a few new things and reaffirmed what I already knew. It didn't exactly tell me what I knew about nutrition was dead wrong since I was already aware about a lot of the material in the documentary. If you're at all interested in nutrition I'd say this is a good supplement to your knowledge base. My misdirected initial impression was a result of me not realizing he was taking on the crap put out by Super-Size Me, which I've never been fond of.

Besides the information aspect it was also interesting and had a lot of fun humor.

Being skinny doesn't mean you are healthy.

I've been doing biology on this recently and know exactly how not to be fat: It's all about the HDLs and LDLs (High-density and low-density lipoprotein) Basicly LDLs make you fat and unhealthy (Prone to heart diease etc.) HDLs make you fit and healthy. (Olive oil, natural oils, Lentils, Fish, Walnuts) There is more to it than that but I can't remember exactly. Combine HDLs with a fair bit of exercise/sleep and you'll be very healthy and slimmer.

That's why skinny people actually have a smaller life span than overweight people. They go on loving up their bodies and think skinny = healthy, people assume being overweight is an indication of being unhealthy, but really you can be chubby and be in perfect health, just like you can be skinny and be in horrible shape.

Every credible scientist in the world would bitch slap you if they saw that.

Truth.  My brother is pretty much the width of my small finger.  It isn't healthy.

I see a lot of people going "oh well sports and exercise really aren't my thing."  That's a load of bull, regardless of genetics and environmental factors growing up every human is capable of doing some athletic activity, even something as simple as a jog around a regular middle class house.

Too many people don't realize that you actually need carbohydrates and calories in order to actually keep living, except overconsumption of these two factors added with lack of exercise is why you start sucking wind right with something as simple as running up stairs.

That's called cholesterol.  Sure, they help a bit but you still need to balance everything else.

And on that point, I'm going to say this:  There is no "ultimate easy plan".  There is no "secret" to it.  You eat a balanced diet for a normal human being, you exercise a normal amount at least once a day, and your body is pretty much in "normal" fitness.  Your diet and exercise depend on your weight, height, etc.

Oh and if you're 14-15 years old and you're starting to eat a lot of food, don't freak out.  You're not getting fat.  If you eat a lot and sit on your ass a lot then you will, though.
