The plants weren't exploding dipstuff. They were melting down. The only plausible way for radiation to hit the US is if something actually kicked up radioactive debris from the plants, in this case, it would be the explosion, but there is none.

There have been two (or three, someone correct me) hydrogen explsions caused by the release of radioactive steam, blowing the roofs off of the containment buildings and damaging equipment inside. I think 3 of the reactors have partially melted down, and some of the cooling pools for used rods are boiling away.
