If you live in the marsh you can grind from within your house by firing a few ranged spells which you get after level 5.
So I'd suggest getting to level 5 and moving there, then grind from the window.

Being a Dark Lord to a wizard is like being a professional football player is to a Jock. It isn't going to happen. The most you'll ever become from all of your leveling and spell-weaving will be admission to a mediocre school of witchcraft like Harvard or Yale.
